Uganda business mogul’s son driving himself to death

Rajiv Rupereria, 35, was driving at a very terrific speed when he crashed his Nissan GTI sport registration plate UAT 638L, killing himself.

One witness described the car as traveling at “insane” speeds before it hit the concrete road barrier on Entebbe-Expressway around Busabala-Kibiri junction and smashed into flames.

Andrew Mwenda, one of Rajiv’s close friends, told the Political Eye that he knows Rajiv was a fast driver as well as motorsport rally driver, he feared the combination of being a rally driver and a fast driver as well was “lethal”.

According to Micheal Kananura, the spokesperson for Traffic Police, 22% of the death recorded between Feb and April, 2025 are a result of high speeding accidents.

Uganda National Road Authority (UNRA) data for accidents on Enteebe-Expressway reveals that crashes on Enteebe-Expressway had increased from 12,249 in 2020 to 17,443 in 2025, with 3,000 crashes fatal, and 4616 surviving with minor injuries.

Road and Transport expert described Uganda’s national road safety as a “societal blindspot”, and he believes that it is a “public health emergency”.

Earlier before, Erias Lukwago the Kampala City Lord Mayor had implored Uganda Police Force to interrogate further with Kampala-Expressway in the face of increased crashes and carnage.

“We do not have the political will or key decision makers taking the right actions.” Said Kayanja DePaul, the former Entebbe Mayor in 2020 and now Entebbe Municipality aspirant in 2025/26 elections.

Family and friends have now gathered at Rupereria’s residence to mourn the sudden passing of Rajiv.
