KAMPALA – When Robert Kyagulanyi phones his friends on one of his cellphone to gossip, gripe or solicit their latest take on how he can take on the NRM government, report indicates that someone is always listening – and putting to use invaluable insights into how to best work for his political games.
Recent incidences reveals that Mr. Kyagulanyi and his cell phone are not secure and they have advised him that other people are routinely listening to his telephone conversation on calls . as well.
Sources say that Mr. Kyagulanyi who has been pressured into using internet calls more often these days, has still refused to give up on cell phone, one close friend.
Bobi Wine’s use of his cell phone was detailed by some close friends, who spoke on anomity so they could discuss personal and sensitive political arrangements – the close friend said they were doing so not to undermine Bobi Wine but of out frustration with what they considered the opposition leader’s casual approach to electronic security.
Voicemail making rounds on X (formerly twitter) indicates that someone must be listening to Bobi Wine’s conversation and intercepting communication between him and foreign envoy.
It should be remembered that sometime back, there was another voicemail recorded. purportedly a love conversation between Bobi Wine and one of Kampala female socialite.
Politico Eye contacted one cyber security expert who declined to comment on Bobi Wine’s case but admitted that cell phones are just not 100% secure. “None of them are completely secure and are vulnerable to hackers who could remotely break into the phones themselves”.
The issue of secure communication is fraught to Bobi Wine. As a leading opposition figure, he is ought to learn from his predecessors some of whom have been victims of the new evolution of technology.
Intercepting calls is relatively easy skill for government. security agencies in Uganda considered it an essential tool of spycraft, and they routinely try to tap the phones of important opposition figures including diplomats.
Recently voicemail recordings made rounds on social media implicating Dr. Kizza Besigye in a secret conversation with some foreigners. Dr, Besigye is still incarcerated in Luzira Maximum Prison on treason charges.
