We are loud and claiming our spaces, but need to be even louder. The struggle continues.” Nakuya contends that her passion is encouraging young girls in DP to be more confident and take up leadership positions. “I think many girls in DP are used to be quiet and obedient. I’d like to contribute to building a generation of strong, status quo crushing, successful women in DP.” says Nakuya.
Angela Kigonya
the former DP Mayoral contestant in Rubaga division, is not new in politics, she was the DP Councillor in Rubaga division for 2 consecutive terms, she has vast experience in issues of women leadership. She believes the best thing about being in politics is having a platform to raise contentious issues like the plight of women in rural areas. She says politicians cannot rest while rape and domestic violence rage on. “ I also want to see so many women in DP finding their voices across many other spectrums, media, the arts, business and now even in elective politics. This generation is no holds barred and soon we will reach a tipping point which I’m excited to be a part of the team that is going to see DP do exactly that.
