Mao Rewrite the NRM’s Old Playbook on Disenfranchising Delegates

Mao Back Again camp are painting Buganda and Busoga districts as ineligible to vote and trying to throw out huge numbers of delegates.

GULU – With just a few days to the Democratic Party National Delegates Conference – considered by many DP members to be the most important in DP lifetime – the right to vote by many members from all district is paramount, but voter disenfranchisement is now part of Mao’s election management committee, with districts from Buganda and Busoga historically the target.

Mao’s elections Management committee and those of the Mao Back Again (MBA) camp have sought to overturn the elected District leadership by filing the list of delegates totally different from what DP members in Iganga, Kayunga, Mpigi and some elected and submitted to the office of the Secretary General early last week.

News we are gathering indicates that Mao and Siranda on Tuesday gathered most of the incoming district chairpersons in Gulu and presented them to Gen. Salim Saleh for financial assistance.

It is said that Mao informed the DP leaders in Gulu meeting that only those with a signed invitation from Siranda will be eligible to attend the conference in Mbarara.

In Kayunga District they appointed the DP security team to select delegates, and efforts by the Kayunga district chairperson to deliver the petition to the office of the National Chairman were futile.  In Mbarara City, most of the well-known registered DP leaders were excluded from the said process and instead hand-picked a few locals to reflect in the DP leadership structure.

Lost on no one in those districts is what they have in common: large anti- Mao delegates. And there is little ambiguity in the way Mr. Mao and his allies are falsely depicting them as – not the elected leaders.

Mao Back Again’s fruitless and pyromaniac campaign to somehow trying to bring Mao back rests on the wholesale disenfranchisement of hundreds of true bonafide delegates and intending candidates, a disproportionate number of them from Buganda and Busoga districts of Kayunga, Mpigi, Wakiso, Iganga and others.

Notably absent from the effort has been any focus on predominantly districts in Lango and Karamoja region where DP couldn’t register any number of success in 2021where virtually DP is non existent.

The campaign is not only about Mao Back Again alone. It is with help from the DP elections management committee and allies, as well as from the office of the Secretary General.

Mr. Mao has consistently sidelines DP district branches in Buganda region throughout his entire 5 years of leadership despite DP’s somehow existence in Buganda region with 7 of the 9 DP MPs in the 11th Parliament coming from Buganda. This has seen many DP Member of Parliament from Buganda and credible DP leaders defecting to other political parties.

“Anti-Mao led districts’ — that’s code for battlefield districts from Buganda and Middle-East of Busoga,” said that…This is an old playbook being used in the modern time, and people should be aware of that.
